Andrew Fleck Intergenerational Early Learning Centre at Perley Health
The Perley Health Intergenerational Early Learning Centre brings generations together through an innovative approach to early learning. Located within the Perley Health community in Ottawa, the purpose-built centre creates opportunities for children and older adults to connect through shared activities, everyday interactions, and meaningful relationships.
Designed by CSV Architects for Andrew Fleck Children’s Services and Perley Health, the centre provides 49 childcare spaces while creating an inclusive environment that supports children, seniors, and individuals with varying mobility and sensory needs.
Lighting played an important role in creating a space that feels bright, welcoming, and comfortable for users across generations. The design required high light levels throughout the facility while keeping glare to an absolute minimum. Soft forms and diffused illumination were selected to create a gentle visual environment, while several fixtures incorporate acoustic elements to further support comfort within the active childcare setting.
The result is a playful yet thoughtful lighting approach that complements the architecture while supporting the centre’s larger purpose: creating a shared environment where children and older adults can learn, interact, and build connections across generations.
