Associations

The Council is a broad-based inclusive coalition of representatives from different segments of the design and building industry. The Council will work to change industry standards, develop best design practices and guidelines; advocate for green buildings, and develop educational tools to support its members in implementing sustainable design and construction practices.

BOMA International was founded in 1907 as the National Association of Building Owners and Managers. BOMA International is a primary source of information on office building development, leasing, building operating costs, energy consumption patterns, local and national building codes, legislation, occupancy statistics and technological developments.

ARIDO was founded in 1934 as the Interior Designers of Ontario. In 1984, IDO became the Association of Registered Interior Designers when the ARIDO Act was passed in the Legislature of Ontario. The Act was amended in 1999 to permit that only interior designers who meet ARIDO standards might use the title of “Interior Designer” in the Province.

With a membership of 15,000, one fifth of which is overseas, CIBSE (The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) is an international body which represents and provides services to the building services profession.

As its name implies, the International Commission on Illumination – abbreviated as CIE from its French title Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage – is an organization devoted to international cooperation and exchange of information among its member countries on all matters relating to the science and art of lighting.

The CPSA Foundation was established in 2004 as a public charitable foundation that would raise funds to support a national post-secondary student academic awards program in sales studies. The association has been recognizing sales excellence through the Sales Hall of Fame, the Corporate Ambassador for Sales Excellence Award and now the student Sales Excellence Award program.

Founded in 1969 and based in Chicago, Illinois, USA, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) is an internationally recognized organization dedicated solely to the concerns of independent and professional lighting designers. The IALD strives to set the global standard for lighting design excellence by promoting the advancement and recognition of professional lighting designers.

IDA’s goals are to be effective in stopping the adverse environmental impact on dark skies by building awareness of light pollution. IDA provides solutions to reduce light pollution, by educating the public about the value and effectiveness of quality nighttime lighting. IDA believes in a united approach that is very supportive of the many local and individual efforts. The Association’s efforts have brought great results in many areas, but acknowledge the fact that much is still needed to be done.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) is the recognized technical authority on illumination. For over 90 years, its objective has been to communicate information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers, through a variety of programs, publications, and services.

IFMA is the world’s largest and most widely recognized international association for professional facility managers, supporting more than 19,000 members in 60 countries. Formed in 1980, IFMA certifies facility managers, conducts research, provides educational programs, recognizes facility management degree and certificate programs and produces World Workplace, the world’s largest facility management conference and exposition.

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada is owned by the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) and produced and managed by Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc. (MMPI). MMPI produces over 300 trade shows, events and conferences each year including NeoCon Worlds Trade Fair.

NEMA, created in the fall of 1926 by the merger of the Electric Power Club and the Associated Manufacturers of Electrical Supplies, provides a forum for the standardization of electrical equipment, enabling consumers to select from a range of safe, effective, and compatible electrical products.

The Ottawa Regional Society of Architects (ORSA) is a non-profit volunteer organization and a Society of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). It provides a forum for free discussion of professional matters, a focus in the community for activities involving architects and a centre for educational, community, and social activities of its members.

Founded in 1889, the Ottawa Construction Association today is one of the largest regional construction associations in Canada and the voice of Ottawa’s non-residential construction industry.

Founded in 1950, the Kingston Construction Association (KCA) brings together businesses involved in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) construction sectors.

EFC, a national not-for-profit association, empowers the Canadian electrical and automation industries with business intelligence, industry research, professional development, community networking and promotes a collective collaborative voice for advocacy and standards advancement.
